About Us

About New Acropolis Nashville

We are a group of volunteers, dedicated to helping all people in metro-Nashville live more meaningful and thoughtful lives through classes in eastern and western philosophy, seminars, and community service. We aim to help move society towards greater degrees of self-knowledge and social responsibility through the promotion of philosophy, culture and volunteering. At New Acropolis, someone can volunteer for a park cleanup, or study the rich symbolism of Ancient Egypt in our Symbology class. Our activities are varied because human beings need a variety of experiences to help them come to “know themselves,” as the ancient, Pre-Socratic philosophers used to say.

Philosophy, Culture, Volunteering

Philosophy
New Acropolis promotes the enduring value of philosophy as “love of wisdom,” a profound search for truth and meaning. Philosophy is about improving ourselves, and changing the world we live in by “being that change.” Every activity at New Acropolis embodies this philosophical spirit. These activities include courses, workshops, seminars, lectures, debates, annual celebration of World Philosophy Day, libraries, publication of books, magazines and research journals.

Culture
All of our activities aim to celebrate global cultural values, moving us towards respect, understanding and transformation. Specific cultural programs at New Acropolis include exhibitions, creative workshops, literary and music competitions, theater groups, cultural tours, sports and martial arts, traditional festivals, fairs and conferences.

Volunteering
At New Acropolis, philosophy and volunteering go hand in hand. To volunteer is to express the best of oneself. We actively encourage people to become involved in one of our community projects which include park cleaning, food drives, environmental education, reforestation, campaigns for cultural understanding and unity, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief.
